I retired last May after thirty some years of teaching French and literature, the last 28 at Denison University, a liberal arts college in Granville, OH. Undoubtedly, the most significant event of my academic career was meeting French author Andrée Chedid in Paris in 1986. I had the privilege of working with her for many years and publishing books and articles about her poetry. She considered poetry as the source of all her writing, including short stories and novels, often with mythical characters, and her encouragement inspired me to write a book of poems in English and French, Country of Lilies / Pays de lys.
I still live in my house in Granvillle's Welsh Hills and enjoy my connections with Denison and friends I have made there. I am also enjoying the freedom of retirement and the time to spend writing, gardening, walking my dog Joey and traveling to Paris when I can.
I've loved reading the e-mails form everyone and I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at the Reunion.
